About Epcot
Opened on October 1, 1982, EPCOT is the second oldest Disney World park and is almost twice the size of the Magic Kingdom. EPCOT stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, and the original vision that Walt Disney had for Epcot was for Epcot to be a model community home to 20,000 permanent residents. And while that reality does not exist at Epcot today, it's safe to assume Walt Disney would still be proud of the technological advances and cultural experiences that millions of guests get to enjoy annually.
The main entrance of Epcot brings you into Future World. Future World is home to many pavilions and buildings that feature some of the most advanced technological rides and offerings that Epcot has to offer. Some of the main attractions in Future World focuses on ocean life, imagination, healthy living, energy, communications, space exploration, land, and environment. Future World is undergoing some major renovations right now and the future of Epcot is very bright. More information about these renovations will be published on this page as details are known.
Across the way from Future World lies the World Showcase that features 11 pavilions around the lagoon, each featuring the architecture, culture, shops and cuisines from 11 different countries. Cast Members that work in the World Showcase Pavilions are from the Disney International program and represent their country and heritage with guests visiting the parks.
